In the 22nd edition of the Mingren semifinals, Peng Quan lost by resignation to Liu Xing and Yin Hang lost by 1.5 points to Gu Lingyi.
Liu is 25 years old 7 dan, while Gu (the photo is a little old) is a very promising 18 years old 5 dan.
Mingren translates as "Brilliant Man" and is the equivalent of Japan's Meijin and Korea's Myungin. There are 64 players who compete to get into a 16 player preliminary. The preliminary is a single knockout format, and the final for the challenger is a best of three while the final is best of five.
They will play a best of three final for the right to challenge current title holder for 5 years (2004 - 2008), China's number one, Gu Li.
Last year, Gu Li won 3-2 against Piao Wenyao, after a very bad start (0-2) in the final.
