How I learned GO

I'll try to combine this post with the history of the Baia Mare GO club.
In October 1993, Florin Berciu founded a Go club at the Vasile Lucaciu highschool. Being a Physics teacher, it was easy for him to get a handful of children to participate in the club's meetings. Some of these "pioneers" that were the heart of the club for a while are Uta Matei, Stan Gabriel, Rob Gabriel, Calauz Radu, Varga Attila, Rob Dinu and myself.
In April 1994, invited by the club's founder, Radu Baciu, then a federal trainer, visited our club. In his 2-3 day stay, he held a few simultaneous games and saying that he helped us progress a stone a day is not far from the truth. Upon his departure, he confessed to Florin that he was impressed with the fast growth of the club. He assigned ranks to all the players, and all the above were ranked in the 6-10 kyu range.
Meeting a strong Go player, and the high ranks that we were assigned, made us believe that within a year we would reach the shodan level. Although it wasn't so easy...
The first tournament...
We made our first presence at the 1994 National Youth Championship, when seven of our club members confronted players from other club's. Arguments of the type: "I play Go for 3 years and I'm 6 kyu, how can you be 6 kyu only after half a year" were being uttered before the contest with respect to our ranks, but soon enough everybody saw that Radu Baciu made no joke when he assigned the ranks. I was the only one to get a prize, but it was enough to motivate everyone in the club.
In the fall of '94 Berciu Florin had to give up the teacher status, because he had no more spare time. Due to my enthusiasm I took charge and the results started soon to show :) At the same time, some talented players rejoined the club, noteworthy being Burzo Cornel, Burzo Sergiu and Tataran Vlad.
In 1999 the club had already 35-40 active players and a few international results obtained by Burzo Cornel and myself.
My best result was the 8th place obtained in the European GO Championship 2001 in Dublin -
